What exactly is local SEO?

Local SEO means getting your business found on Google by people near you. Painter SEO, if you have heard it called that, is the same thing. When someone types "painters near me", the first thing Google shows is three business listings with stars and a call button, and only then the websites. Local SEO is the work that gets your business into those three.

  • Metro House Painting ★★★★ 4.6 (42) · Painter

These three are business listings, not websites. People pick a few names from them and start comparing.

When is local SEO worth it?

If your work comes from locals comparing quotes, these three things matter:

  • Australians search "painters near me" about 5,400 times a month

  • you're never the only quote: people shortlist a few painters and compare photos and review dates

  • repaints get quoted before a brush comes out, and the choosing happens at the planning stage

The rest of the picture, from your website through to Google Ads, sits in marketing for painters. Getting the website itself found on Google is SEO for tradies; the website behind it all is on websites for painters. This is one trade's version of local SEO for tradies. If you want to set up your Google listing yourself, our Google Business Profile guide shows you how.

Local SEO, run to a painter's calendar

We keep the whole thing moving month after month: photos going up, reviews coming in, suburb pages climbing.

  • Befores and afters, suburb by suburb

Someone comparing three quotes wants to see a house like theirs, done well, nearby. We keep your photos tagged by job and suburb.

  • Showing up before repaint season

Exterior work waits for warm, dry weather, but the quoting starts well before it. We get you showing up on Google while the ladders are still packed away.

  • Reviews with recent dates

People comparing painters check the dates on reviews, not just the stars. A review ask at every handover means yours are never months old.

  • A page for every suburb

A search that names a suburb needs a local page to land on. Each suburb you paint in gets one, built properly on your website.

  • Geared for quote requests

A repaint starts with a quote and a walk-through. Your pages make asking for one easy, with a form that takes the details in writing.

We know the numbers before we start.

"Painters near me" gets about 5,400 searches a month. Before we plan anything, we pull what your suburbs actually search.

Local SEO questions?

See if we answered it below.

What are the three businesses at the top of Google?

They are business listings, not websites. Search something like "painters close to me" and the three at the top, with the stars and the call button, are them. Google calls the listing a Google Business Profile, it is free, and it shows your stars, photos and hours, which is what people use to pick who to call.

How much does local SEO cost?

No two painters start from the same spot, and the price follows the starting point. A Google listing built from scratch is a different job to one that just needs new photos and reviews each month. Once we have seen yours, you get an exact monthly figure. Month to month, no contracts.

Does local SEO actually work for a painter?

Our named results are on this website: one client takes about 10 new clients a month from being found on page one, and another saw phone enquiries double inside two months, in their own review words above. Painting gets picked off photos and reviews, and this is the work that puts yours in front of the people comparing.

When should a painter start on local SEO?

Earlier than feels natural. Showing up on Google takes months, exterior quoting picks up as the weather warms, and interior work runs all year, so the practical move is starting in whichever stretch is quietest for you. By the time quote requests climb, yours is already the listing people find.

How many suburbs can a painter show up in?

As many as you genuinely work in, if the work backs it up. Your Google listing carries the suburbs you tell Google you cover, and Google matches you to nearby searches inside them. What stretches your reach is proof across those suburbs: reviews and job photos with the suburb named. It makes sense to go wider for full repaints than for touch-up jobs.

How long does local SEO take?

Expect first movement after 4 to 8 weeks somewhere quiet, and after 3 to 6 months in the bigger city suburbs. That is our experience, not a guarantee. Repaints sit in the "maybe" pile anyway, which gives your listing time to climb before anyone commits.

Is SEO dead in 2026?

No. A repaint still ends with a local painter up a ladder, and finding that painter still starts on Google. "Painters close to me" gets about 5,400 Australian searches a month, and the three business listings at the top of Google are the ones that get compared.
